Online Communities
From AmbientLibrarian
The Web is full of groups of people who share common interests. Luckily, plenty of library "geeks" have banded together to share information about technology. But, where do you start? Try these:
- Library 2.0 at Ning
- The "Geek" section of LISNews.org
- TechEssence
- WebJunction
- "Librarians and Facebook" group at facebook.com
Social Networking
Social Networking sites such as MySpace and Facebook are an incredible popular aspect of Library 2.0. Yet, such sites raise concerns over privacy and safety. In fact, recent legislation threatens access to such sites from school and public computers. The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) of ALA has compiled resources to help librarians understand and communicate about social networking. Visit YALSA's Social Networking Resources.
PDFs provided by YALSA include:
- Teens & Social Networking in School & Public Libraries: A Toolkit for Librarians & Library Workers
- Legislative Advocacy Guide
- DOPA Information Packet
Oklahoma Libraries on MySpace: Stillwater Public Library is on MySpace at www.myspace.com/public_library or click here. We offer book recommendations, links to online book clubs, Library 2.0 information, other blogs, local music, videos and more
